Precision processing procedure for large-diameter butt-welded flanges
Date:2026-02-05 12:00:00 Author:Tieye Flange Pipe Fittings Co., Ltd.

The precision processing procedure of large-diameter butt-welded flanges is a complex and meticulous process, mainly including the following key steps:

1. Raw material preparation

Selection: Select high-quality thick steel plates as raw materials. Commonly used materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel, which have good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Inspection: Conduct strict inspections on the raw materials, including non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing, to ensure that there are no delaminations, slag inclusions, or other defects.

2. Preliminary processing

Cutting: Use high-precision cutting equipment to cut the raw materials to obtain the required flange blanks.

Pre-treatment: Perform pre-treatment on the cut flange blanks, such as deburring and rust removal, to improve the quality and efficiency of subsequent processing.

3. Forming processing

Forging: For the flange blanks, perform forging to increase their density and strength. During the forging process, control the forging force and temperature to ensure that the shape and size of the flange meet the design requirements.

Mechanical processing: Use machining equipment such as lathes and milling machines to further process the flange, such as turning and milling, to achieve the required accuracy and surface quality.

4. Welding and inspection

Welding: Weld the flange with the pipeline or other connecting components. Before welding, clean and pre-treat the welding surfaces to ensure the welding quality. During the welding process, control welding parameters such as welding current, voltage, and speed to avoid the occurrence of welding defects.

Inspection: Conduct quality inspections on the welded flanges, including visual inspection of the weld seams, non-destructive testing (such as X-ray testing, ultrasonic testing), and mechanical performance testing, to ensure that the welding quality meets relevant standards and requirements.

5. Surface treatment and fine processing

Surface treatment: Perform necessary surface treatments on the flange, such as sandblasting, shot blasting, painting, or rust prevention treatment, to improve its corrosion resistance and appearance.

Fine processing: Conduct final fine processing on the flange, such as polishing, grinding, etc., to achieve the required surface roughness and glossiness. During the fine processing, use high-precision processing equipment and tools to ensure the size and shape accuracy of the flange.

6. Inspection and packaging

Inspection: Conduct a comprehensive inspection of the fine-processed flanges, including size inspection, shape inspection, and surface quality inspection, to ensure that they meet the design requirements and relevant standards.

Packaging: Package the inspected flanges to prevent damage during transportation and storage. The packaging materials should be selected to be moisture-proof, rust-proof, and corrosion-resistant, and indicate the model, specification, and quantity of the flanges.

In summary, the precision processing procedure of large-diameter butt-welded flanges is a complex process involving multiple links and various processing technologies. Through strict raw material inspection, preliminary processing, forming processing, welding and inspection, surface treatment and fine processing, as well as inspection and packaging, the quality and performance of the flanges can be ensured to meet relevant standards and requirements.
